| My
paintings draw upon images taken from the beach at Coney Island,
New York. In this setting the bathers reveal themselves as they
relax and play in the sun. The intensity of the light and shade,
however, converts their forms and movements into a kind of abstraction.
With the intensity of illumination, details are obscured and an
anonymous sense of spectacle and pattern can result. At the same
time, however, these harsh contrasts reveal for me a psychological
dimension which surface identitiy often masks and conceals.
