Maura Doern Danko

New Paintings

July 10 – 28, 2018

Reception: Thursday, July 12, 6-8 pm

The work by Maura Doern Danko featured at the Bowery Gallery’s Summer Invitational includes small still life paintings and larger imagined scenarios. All reflect a sort of auto-narrative and combine views that hold a diaristic reference.

Still life objects as books, toys, figurines, cups—observed strewn on the kitchen table, became the basis for the painted investigations. Certain still life items are repeated, and some are fundamental in the more invented compositions. They become a catalyst in the foreground representing a sort of domestic framework. The associations among objects are altogether random and found, arranged and accidental.

Throughout her career, Maura has used themes of the familiar world, proximate and intimate views that mix an interest in formalism and narrative. Loose, fluid brushwork is a mainstay.
