Glen Cebulash

Places and Things

January 4 – 29, 2022

Opening reception, Thursday, January 6, 5-8 pm

Glen Cebulash is showing paintings and drawings in his first show at Bowery Gallery, 547 West 27th Street, NYC, from January 4 to January 29, 2022. The opening reception is Thursday, January 6, 5-8 pm.

Of the work in this show, Cebulash has written:

Like many people during the pandemic I found myself spending an inordinate amount of time on the internet. Aside from trying to make peace with Zoom and virtual museum visits, I indulged a longstanding interest in wandering the world on google maps. Of particular fascination was the “street-view” function, which allowed me to maneuver through cities and towns, as if driving. None of this has anything to do with painting. Nor is there any concrete connection between any of it and my work, which I see as something more akin to a formal, constructive game. Still, these journeys were always on my mind and, in some very real sense, they informed my painting imagination, hence Places and Things. The painter Leland Bell, once said “all painting comes from nature”. I have often reflected on this, particularly as my own painting habit went from the perceptual to the non-objective. With its color, density, weight and rhythm, the world and my ongoing desire to connect to it, are always present for me in the studio.

Glen Cebulash has shown throughout the United States, in solo and group exhibitions, and as a member of the Midwest Paint Group. He teaches at Wright State University in Dayton, OH, where he is Chair of the Department of Art and Art History.
